Where should I live?
One thing to consider when coming to work at Discovery College is its unique but also somewhat remote location in Discovery Bay (DB). Living and working in Discovery Bay can be quite convenient and easy and many teachers and staff choose this option. Discovery Bay is kid-friendly, pet-friendly and offers access to many outdoor activities. Transportation to and from Discovery Bay is limited to either a ferry service to Central or buses going to Tung Chung or Sunny Bay MTR stations from where you can access all of Hong Kong. Urban and Lantau taxis can also enter Discovery Bay only in the DB North Plaza area through the DB Tunnel.
Something to consider though is that while DB is a nice community to live in, it can also prove claustrophobic to some and, with such a large expat population, not feel like the true “Hong Kong” experience some people are looking for. In general, teachers with children who attend Discovery College choose to live in Discovery Bay due to the proximity to the school, open spaces and activities or just a bit further away in Tung Chung which is a 15/20 min bus ride and a short walk to school. Teachers without children often choose to live on Hong Kong Island with the majority settling in the Mid-Levels or Sheung Wan.
We do have staff coming from much further afield and other easily accessible areas to consider in your search for where to live are:
Tung Chung- convenient by bus service
Central/Sheung Wan/Mid Levels – convenient to ferry
